Went to see sister, who made me go to the doctors, to confirm that i had shingles. Some how she (the doctor) brought up that if i wanted more info or something i should check patients.co.uk. She’d already had the site up on the computer. I assume she refers to the site often. LOL! Now i’m in isolation/quarantine/confinement.. whatever sounds more dramatic. But w.t.f. I’ve been around the girls for the past 4 days that i’ve had this rash; not knowing what it was. Doubt i would’ve done much damage 1 more day around them. But the down time in my room is nice. I’ve just been napping, and now the house is empty because everyone’s off doing prep, I’ve popped down for left over snack. Seriously, of all snacks, rocky road here is the best. Chocolate, caramel, marshmallow, biscuity goodness mmm….even melted. Out of the fridge it tastes SO.GOOT! Realised after i’d scoffed a piece that Rosie (i assume) had left me a portion in the fridge. The thought of non-melted rocky road :( LOOL! Sam just brought me up dinner ROFL!

too kind! It’s “nachos”. And this is my room: And and me, looking seriously ill:

i can finally scroll to read old messages so here’s an update of all things random:

i don’t watch a lot of tv cause the tv in my room doesn’t work. but that’ll soon be fixed. i usually watch the voice with the girls. and there’s this reality show which i like it’s like something chelsea i think? can’t really remember”

Watched something Essex the other day which got us high. Admittedly we were kind of high on life before that. So much so that when me and Jordyn went back to Highlands to get some Herman, Sam and Amanda thought we were tipsy. LOL! (Herman’s this friendship, yeasty cake Jordyn gave, after receiving it from Adale. It ferments for 10 days, then you add more ingredients and bake it. Everyone was hesitant in tasting it but it was great! Haters were shut down the day Herman was baked)

i found a set of scales at a friends house and i’ve gained 10k == not even exaggerating! ROFLROFL!! ”

i think i come across as a bitch cause the girls sometimes ask if i’m alright when i’m completely fine and one of the girls was like i could sum up you in one word but i won’t say so i went up to her so she could whisper to me and she was like you sound like you’re fucked up and i was like D: cause i thought she meant i looked like i’d just had a good fuck and then i was alike wait do you mean i look really angry? and she was like yeah! and i was like maybe it’s just my accent and she was like nah, cause you sound fine now and i was like >.> ROFL!”

“to add to my misfortunes i think i have shingles (so the housemistress thinks). need to go see the nurse (who we call sister) tomorrow to clarify. but just googled it cause we all know the internet’s got it’s facts straight and i’m like 99.99999999999% sure”

Went to Pound World with the girls as a ‘treat’. LOL! you would’ve thought it was the hardest decision they’d ever made in their lives with deciding what to spend their pound on. Pretty uneventful day otherwise.

Been looking at buying a melodica cause they’re so freaking quirky but can i afford 20 pounds..? might leave it for after the summer holidays

Snippets from messages to friends because i ceebs

“just felt like i needed to tell someone but i just properly fell down a flight of stairs. i don’t even know how i did it but i just like flew down a few stairs and broke my fall by putting my foot out at the end where the stair case curves. and it must’ve been the loudest thump ever and the house mistress and the deputy were in the office down stairs i’m pretty sure they heard the thump. i was like an elephant doing hurdles. And i’m trying to play it cool but my big toe is fuckin purple!!! LOOOL!”

Random things about Italy

Ways to save euros

  • Bring washing powder. We paid 7€ for the washing machine and dryer alone.
  • You can get away with fare evading busses (touch wood) - not so much trains
  • They charge a service fee and/or cover charge at restaurants for sitting or some stupid shit. You can avoid this by sweet talking with the waiter, sitting outside (in some circumstances) or going to a ‘self-service’ restaurant (where you eat off trays). Don’t think bars charge either but their food is crap; even according to an honest bar owner who advertised a restaurant across the road and admitted that all bar food is just frozen foods
  • There’s city tax of 1€ (or more) per person, per night which we read on the last night “applies to people up to 18 years”. But when we brought this up with the receptionist the genius claimed we were 19 and even after correcting him he said we still had to pay so still don’t know if 18 year olds count.
  • The guys dressed in gladiator costumes, in Rome, charge 5€ PER PERSON for a photo. It’s a bunch of b.s. I saw the costumes at a shop and you could probably just put in to buy one of those.
  • Before booking things in advance like accomodation and tours put some euros on a cash passport to save fees for overseas transactions.
  • You can save money by lining up for things or you can save time by paying in advance and paying a booking fee.
  • Always haggle and don’t get too excited about shopping (especially when you first land). Regretted some purchases when i realised things got better and cheaper in other cities - like the 5€ cones with choc tops, coated in nuts are a rip; you can get them on waffle cones in Sorrento for 3.5€.
  • Get a student card. It’d cut your admission fees. Planning on getting my Macrob card posted to me and fingers cross it’ll do.
  • Stock up on cheap snacks for when you visit museums and historical sites so you don’t spend 5€ on an apple and a plum from a little stall on the side of the road who tries to convince you you’re getting a bargain because they cut 20c off your costs cause that didn’t happen to me. But these sites are flipping huge. Ash and I probs averaged 5 hours at every monumental site.

Other things

  • Everyone is fliratitous and hot.
  • They all ride bikes in nice clothes and look hot doing so. I realised not needing to wear a helmet was probably half the reason.
  • There are running taps everywhere which are safe to drink from
  • Book through Italiarail; not Trenitalia because they never sent us confirmation emails. Not knowing we needed this code which was a mix of letter and numbers (rather than just numbers), we had to turn up an hour in advance for half our trains. Some of the train staff in Rome were rude and bitch which also left me bitter about the company.
  • You can’t enter some churches/cathedrals with bare legs or singlets. And according to locals your dress is how they tell you apart from locals.
  • Many Americans travel around this time because they’re on Easter break; so anyone who’s not a local is most like an American on exchange.

In a boarding house without any students

GOING TO ITALY TOMORROW AND I’M SCARED AND EXCITED AND BORED! 20 days in Italy and Austria.

Everyone’s gone already and it’s just me and Ash left. Annie, Grace and Hilary left early Saturday morning; Rosie and Jordyn early Sunday morning and Lizzy later that morning. I’ve spent two whole days with this retard called Ash! jks! <3

Moved food from the gap flat to Highlands and we’re sleeping in the common room now. Been living off chips, biscuits, bread, dip and eggs (with the occasional piece of fruit). I’ve fallen ill and am breaking out; it might have something to do with this diet

Just finished skyping friends and family and ready for lack of internet for 3 weeks! (except for facebook)

Maintenance and teachers keep walking through the house and seeing us around campus; giving us looks like ‘you’re not out of the house yet?’ LOL

Last days of Spring term

1 note
Permalink

Scotland… (a draft from ages ago)

was a 10 day trip 7 of us went on for half term. (The girls have 3 terms in a year and half term breaks). I had no expectations going there, so it turned out being quite a pleasant holiday. Took a maxi cab to Luten which seems to have shit security seeing as Ash made it through the x-ray thingy without her toiletries bag being picked up on. We’d all paid for one luggage bag which we all shared and no one thought to weigh the bag so we ended up being a few kilos over. Being the cheap travellers that we are we opened the luggage in the middle of the airport; putting on the wellies we’d packed, stuffing food in our bags and clothes in our pocket (in Annie’s case). Flew Easyjet where for some reason everyone runs to the departure gates. Not a full out sprint, but you know, quickly paced walk/ semi jog. It’s funny now you think about it. But when you’re carry-on is the same weight as you and you’ve layered on half the clothes you plan to wear for the duration of the trip you just think ‘F.M.L’.

Arrived in Edinburgh, i think, at about 9? Took another taxi from the airport to Art Roch Hostel which was by far THE most quirky hostel. It had a preserved sheep, blanketed with some other sheep skin (LOL) and dead i don’t-even-know-whats hanging by nails. The walls were graffitied with paintings and all the sort. Each room was unique. The booking went weird so 5 of us stayed in one room with 3 other chinese girls, whilst Annie and Grace stayed in another room with girls from Boston university. They had dress-up nights at the hostel, which we didn’t take part in because we never knew what was going on and we kind of just kept to ourselves. We did walk past some Italian guys who were like ‘*italian words…italian words* blow job *italian words*’. I thought i’d misheard until Annie and Hilary mentioned it.

Went to Mary King’s Close (which was AWESOME!), climbed the monument, went to Edinburgh Castle, climbed Arthur’s seat and the ?Sainsbury Crag? and visited a slick restaurant which would’ve looked to be outside our budget, from an outsider’s perspective.

Met at Edinburgh castle in the morning to await a coach which took us to the Highlands which was friggin amazing! (Free whisky came with the tour!) It was like Lord of the Rings crossed with Jurassic Park. There was so much hiking and walking. There were many long drives to admire the scenery, which was also filled with bitchez taking pics of me sleeping. For some reason i don’t wake to flash. It was clear skies for our first day there, which was great but shit weather kicked in after, which made it harder to get on and off the bus to site see. While everyone went to some brewing place me and Ash climbed to see this waterfall (i admit i forced it a little onher). It was so windy and cold; rain was giving my face a good lashing, and all for this waterfall that that looked like someone was take a piss. Soz Ash! LOL! We had a midnight run for ice cream which we ate whilst sitting around the hostel exchanging stories of our past mischiefs. For lunch one day, we went to this restaurant which had pretty shit service for tourists on the go. Food came late, there were no thank you’s and sorry’s from the waitress; some of us had to pack food (which wasn’t even pizza), into pizza boxes (because they had no other containers), and sprint for the bus which was set to leave. Annie ran out with their cutlery without thinking which was fecking hilarious. It was a long bus ride home with a stop off at Loch Ness (which is kind of eerie) and the coach kept overheating and we kept having to stop. But i enjoyed a bit of havoc. Poor driver, who was stressed out.

Was sad for the end of the tour. We were dropped off back at Edinburgh and took a train to Glasgow, which was a lot more relaxing. I’ll admit i can’t remember a lot from Glasgow. At the airport we all glugged down our share of Iron Brew which someone had bought for sale. It was rank! so we ended up chucking most of it out. Despite our efforts not to get held up by customs guess who forgot to put their toiletries in the check-in. I set off the metal detector and had to get patted down. awks when the lady put her hands down the waist band of my jeans. Then had my carry-on rummaged through to have my toiletries chucked out.

That was the trip in a nutshell!
